Russia Says It Downed 635 Drones as Ukraine Hit an Engels Bomber Base and Oil Sites: Ukraine launched a broad long-range drone attack across a wide arc of Russia on August 2, striking military, energy, and logistics sites across Russia.
Russia’s Defense Ministry claimed its forces intercepted 635 Ukrainian drones during the night.
The reported attack stretched from border regions to the Volga and farther east toward Udmurtia and Bashkortostan.
Ukraine’s General Staff said its forces hit the Saratov oil refinery and Engels air base, causing fires at both sites.
The Financial Times reported that Ukrainian planners are now focusing on critical components whose destruction keeps plants offline longer and makes repairs more expensive.
