NEWPORT, R.I. — The city could soon take a different approach to investigating serious traffic accidents. Strong Towns, a nonprofit that advocates for more resilient and safer urban areas, invited Newport to join its Crash Analysis Studio. The program brings together technical and non-technical experts to examine severe crashes and identify street design and policy changes that could prevent future deaths and injuries. A crash analysis isn’t about whose fault it is; it’s about how it could happen.” Also, one in 19 crashes in the city involves a distracted driver, and the most severe crashes are most likely to occur between 3 and 6 p.m.Freeman said the crash analysis would complement the city’s existing efforts.
