Lot A, launched in 2024, includes demolitions, rail infrastructure replacement, port-road improvements, flood-control work and construction to establish the main tunnel work sites. Navigating Below an Ancient Port CityLot B encompasses the project’s most technically complex work beneath the port and city, according to Webuild. The planned undersea highway tunnel will link Genoa's San Benigno district with the Foce waterfront through twin 2.1-mile highway tubes beneath the commercial port. The replacement rail tunnel was completed in about 22 months using 616 precast segments. Webuild says the tunnel, Genoa’s new breakwater and the Terzo Valico rail corridor together are intended to better integrate the city’s port, rail and urban-road networks.
