After bigoted comments shared by guitarist Jake Cinninger‘s Instagram account circulated online in the weeks following his recent split from Umphrey’s McGee, Cinninger has claimed responsibility and offered an apology for his racist rhetoric. “All apologies to anyone I have offended by my use of words,” Cinninger said in a statement issued to Live For Live Music via an intermediary on Saturday. Umphrey’s McGee offered its own condemnation of the racist comments in a separate statement to Live For Live Music last week. “Umphrey’s McGee has always fostered a welcoming and inclusive community for our fans, crew, and everyone we work with,” the band wrote. Cinninger was a member of Umphrey’s McGee for 26 years.
