The map draws together the UK’s 62 World Heritage Sites, Creative Cities, Global Geoparks and Biosphere Reserves, all to one space. The map includes the newest designations in the UK’s UNESCO network, which include Arran Global Geopark. Galloway and Southern Ayrshire was the first UNESCO Biosphere in Scotland, designated in 2012, and is the largest Biosphere in the UK. Ed Forrest, director of the Galloway and Southern Ayrshire UNESCO Biosphere, said: "Our connections with other UNESCO sites across Scotland, the UK and around the world set southwest Scotland apart as a place for learning and discovery. "The updated UK UNESCO map literally puts adventure in people’s hands; it widens accessibility, builds understanding, and encourages sustainable tourism that both protects and celebrates our world class natural, cultural and built heritage.
