Urges integration of ecosystems, modern tech to combat rising disastersSrinagar: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Monday called for an urgent need to integrate nature-based solutions into climate resilience strategies during a conference at the Islamic University of Science & Technology (IUST).
The event focused on strengthening climate resilience and livelihoods in the Himalayan region amid escalating environmental challenges.
Sinha urged universities to elevate the study of Nature-based Solutions into a multidisciplinary field encompassing ecology, hydrology, engineering, economics, and traditional knowledge.
He referenced the Green Jammu Kashmir Drive launched in 2020, which increased forest cover to nearly 55 percent, and reiterated the importance of sustainable living to preserve biodiversity and cultural heritage.
“Involving communities, leveraging modern technologies, and placing nature at the core of development can build resilience in the Himalayas against climate change,” the Lieutenant Governor stated.
