Councillor William Rooney, convenor for corporate services, has welcomed the appointment of a dedicated Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence. The new minister, Kanishka Narayan MP, was appointed by Prime Minister Andy Burnham on July 20 to serve between the Cabinet Office and the Department for Business, Innovation, Science and Trade. Mr Narayan called AI "likely the most significant technology in human history," with transformational potential for public services, national security, and reindustrialisation. West Dunbartonshire Council is moving forward following approval of its People and Technology Service Delivery Plan for 2026/27. Councillor Rooney said: "AI will be an important part of shaping our public services, and we can use it to innovate to make every single penny work as hard as possible to deliver best value for taxpayers."
