San Francisco originally acquired Ray in a trade with the Seattle Mariners in Jan. 2024 as the former Cy Young Award winner was rehabbing from Tommy John surgery. Ray eventually debuted with the Giants on July 24 of that year, making seven starts before the season ended. He now will join righty Michael King atop the the Padres' starting rotation, while two intriguing prospects join a rising Giants farm system.
