Trail NewsAir quality worsens in Kootenay Lake region; improves throughout West KootenaySmoke keeps swirlingPhoto: B.C. Wildfire smoke in the region is contributing to a poor air quality warning. The quality of the air around the Kootenay Lake region continues to be choked with smoke, according to Environment Canada (EC). The national forecaster issued a yellow level poor air quality warning for the Kootenay Lake region, but rescinded its warning for the Arrow Lakes, Slocan Lake, Boundary and greater West Kootenay regions. A yellow air quality designation indicates "moderate" air quality on the air quality index (AQI), with a value between 51 and 100, meaning the air is generally acceptable for most people, but unusually sensitive groups may experience minor health concerns.
