St Gerard's School, on Ffriddoedd Road, ceasedoperating at the end of the school term on Friday, July 3. The school said the decision had been made following a period of financial pressure, with the school citing rising National Insurance costs, the introduction of VAT on school fees, the loss of its charitable status and the sustained challenge of maintaining pupil numbers as reasons for the closure. But the building could see quick changes after being brought to the market by estate agent Sanderson Weatherall. The listing says the empty site is "suitable for conversion", adding: "The school provides an extensive range of teaching, administrative and recreational accommodation arranged across the main school building and separate junior school facility. In a statement, he said the financial pressures had "grown significantly", including the impact of VAT on school fees, making it "impossible to continue".
