Although emerging evidence – including limited data on global philanthropy (OECD, Indiana University) – a suggests that foundations have increased their international funding, global philanthropy is currently not able to replace lost government aids.
Nevertheless, the changing landscape might encourage global philanthropy to rethink where and how it can create the greatest value for society.
This might be the moment to transform the ecosystem of global philanthropy.
That requires “champion funders,” foundations with the influence and commitment to advocate for and invest in the growth of local philanthropy.
One place to begin is with a simple question: What hindsight, insight, and foresight should guide the future global philanthropy?
