The former question is one that I consider a lot in my capacity as a postdoctoral fellow at The Observing Civic Engagement Lab at Indiana University. Our lab has a unique and robust demographic dataset about who actually shows up in civil society organizations (CSOs). As I heard others talk about how to diversify civil society, I thought about the access barriers that particular demographics face. People show up in civil society when they can access civil society.
