Benjamin Lewis, 48, of Kinross Road, Totton, was handed a hospital order with restrictions after admitting to multiple incidents of religiously aggravated public order and theft.
The offences took place between February and July 2025 across the New Forest and involved the killing of farm animals, including lambs, whose bodies or remains were then left at church sites.
PC Jess Surman of Totton Neighbourhood Policing Team, who led the investigation, described the offences as deeply distressing.
PC Surman said: "The offences occurred at multiple churches, including Colbury Church, St Peter’s Church, Bramshaw and St Teresa’s Church in Totton.
"He carried out most of his offending at St Teresa’s Church, where multiple lambs were found on different days.
