The site falls within the Caerleon Conservation Area and is designated as a Scheduled Monument. Plans were submitted by Highmore Investments Ltd.Friends of Ffwrwm Trees, a campaign group formed in response to the application, said: "Not good news for the Ffwrwm trees, we're afraid. Newport City Council issued its decision on 27 July and raised no objection to the felling of half the Ffwrwm trees. The council’s decision notice also stresses the need to protect wildlife and archaeology during the works. Friends of Ffwrwm Trees have now stood down from direct campaigning but have expressed hope that the wider issues will continue to be addressed by others in the community and council.
