✕America's vast landscapes captivated Theodore Roosevelt long before he became president, but none more so than the towering buttes, scoria hills, and prairies of the Dakota Territory. Without question, these so-called badlands were the most appropriate place for the Snøhetta-designed Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library (TRPL), which opened last month to celebrate his legacy as an outdoorsman, naturalist, and steward of public land. In his memory, Congress established what became the Theodore Roosevelt National Park outside Medora, North Dakota, which the library now overlooks.
