Spread the wordThe Nigerian Agricultural Insurance Corporation (NAIC) has unveiled plans to introduce a Passenger Group Accident Insurance Scheme in partnership with transport unions to provide financial protection for commuters affected by road traffic accidents across the country. He said the initiative was being developed in partnership with the National Union of Road Transport Workers and the Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners to complement the Federal Government’s efforts to improve road safety and strengthen social protection. According to him, about 32,000 commuters sustain injuries every year, while an estimated 5,200 people lose their lives annually in road traffic accidents across Nigeria. “The proposed Passenger Group Accident Insurance Scheme is a strategic intervention designed to reduce the financial burden on victims of road traffic accidents and their families,” Danfulani said. The meeting also featured a presentation outlining the implementation roadmap for the proposed Passenger Group Accident Insurance Scheme, with stakeholders expressing confidence that the initiative would deliver lasting benefits to Nigerian road users.
