Disney's live-action Star Wars slate has thinned out considerably on streaming, and with the next theatrical entry, Star Wars: Starfighter, not due until May 2028, the franchise's most interesting work has been happening in animation. The new series arrives under a banner created to let filmmakers stretch a well-liked short into something with room to breathe. The final trailer, shared on the official Star Wars YouTube channel on Monday, runs barely 90 seconds. Star Wars: Visions Presents – The Ninth Jedi continues the story Production I.G began with the fan-favorite Volume 1 short of the same name and picked up again in Volume 3's "The Ninth Jedi: Child of Hope." Lucasfilm announced the expansion at Star Wars Celebration Japan in April 2025, and it wasn't a big surprise for fans.
