Paul Morris, 33, landlord of The Railway Tavern in Newtown, had denied a charge of possessing an offensive weapon in a public place when he appeared before Welshpool Magistrates' Court on June 30. Mr Morris, of Barn Lane, Newtown pleaded not guilty to the charge. Although magistrates said they were prepared to retain jurisdiction, Mr Morris elected to have the case heard at the crown court. He had been due to make an initial appearance at Mold Crown Court on July 31 and was granted unconditional bail.
