Ireland has assumed the Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the eighth time it has taken the role since it did so first in 1975. During the Presidency, Ireland will play a leading part in guiding negotiations, brokering agreements and helping to deliver laws and policies affecting more than 450 million people across Europe.
