Marc Skinner has left Manchester United Women by mutual consent, the club confirmed on Monday 3 August 2026, just over a month before their WSL opener against London City Lionesses.
That matters because United now head into one of the most competitive WSL seasons in memory without a head coach, with Chelsea at home and Arsenal away among their first three fixtures.
Skinner never beat Chelsea in the WSL across five years, and his final season ended in fourth place without European qualification.
Arsenal, Manchester City, Chelsea, and London City Lionesses have all strengthened significantly this summer, with London City landing two-time Ballon d’Or winner Alexia Putellas among their headline additions.
Managerial instability is not unique to United this summer, but the timing and the scale of the rebuild ahead make this appointment particularly consequential.
