The Local Ordinary of Butembo-Beni, since August 1998 challenged families to celebrate Parents’ Day through concrete acts of love and care rather than simply through material gifts.
“And if there is any resentment today, this is the day for us to reconcile once again,” Bishop Sikuli said, describing the celebration as “a wonderful opportunity to strengthen family unity.”
He further encouraged those who may have hurt their parents to seek forgiveness.
Bishop Sikuli said conflicts over inheritance can create divisions within families following the death of a parent.
The Catholic Bishop urged families to seek mediation through the diocesan or parish Justice and Peace Commission whenever disagreements arise instead of allowing disputes to escalate.
