The frugality stands in contrast to Newport Beach’s Raj Sports, the owners of the women’s soccer (Portland Thorns FC) and WNBA (Portland Fire) teams in the city. The Fire is averaging over 14,000 fans per game in its inaugural season at Moda Center, fourth-most of any WNBA team. Its July 24 match against Gotham FC brought in nearly 22,000 fans, the most for a match in two years. The only people missing that match were the Bhathal family, who were in Chicago for the WNBA All-Star game. Tillamook’s other Douglas Fir-constructed blimp hangar burned down in 1992, echoing the Tustin hangar fire in 2023.
