The National Trust for Scotland (NTS) have confirmed that a major upgrade of its facilities at the Bannockburn Battlefield in Stirling will start later this year. NTS announced that the centre will close by 1 October 2026, with re-opening currently projected for mid-2028. The Trust opened the current state-of-the-art Battle of Bannockburn Visitor Centre on 1 March 2014. It was built for the 700th anniversary of the 1314 battle to replace old 1960s facilities, with £9.1m funding from the Scottish Government and Heritage Lottery Fund. NTS took over the management of the historic Battle of Bannockburn site in the 1930s after a national committee saved the hallowed ground from being acquired by Stirling Council for housing development.
