According to recent Pearson modelling, inefficient transitions between education, work and reskilling cost the Australian economy an estimated AUS$104 billion annually. For higher education, this raises a fundamental question: are we preparing students for jobs that no longer exist? Students invest in education to gain knowledge, develop skills and improve their career prospects. However, AI is accelerating change across almost every profession, and the challenge is preparing students to navigate occupations that will continue evolving long after graduation. Because in an AI economy, employability is no longer a destination reached at graduation.
