Coup leader Min Aung Hlaing was installed as Myanmar's civilian president that same month following elections rights groups have described as highly restricted. The disclosure comes as multiple governments have pressed Myanmar's military-backed administration for greater transparency about Suu Kyi's condition, including the United States, China and Thailand. Suu Kyi's 2021 ouster triggered a civil war in Myanmar that has killed more than 100,000 people across all sides, a conflict that continues alongside the diplomatic pressure over her individual case.
