Motorists planning to cross the Singapore-Malaysia border during the upcoming National Day long weekend are being advised to prepare for significant delays, with the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) warning of "very heavy traffic" at both the Woodlands and Tuas checkpoints from August 7 to August 10. The advisory comes after a series of record-breaking travel periods at Singapore's land checkpoints. During the busiest travel periods, motorists entering or leaving Singapore by car experienced waiting times of up to three hours for immigration clearance, largely due to traffic congestion extending from the Malaysian side of the border. The authority also highlighted improvements under its New Clearance Concept, which enables motorcycle riders and pillion passengers to use facial recognition technology during immigration clearance. The ICA said careful planning and cooperation from travelers will help ensure smoother traffic flow and reduce delays during one of the busiest cross-border travel periods of the year.
