A mentally ill man who leaped from the Brooklyn Bridge Sunday afternoon but was amazingly unharmed has been charged with several crimes, police sources said.
According to law enforcement sources, police received a 911 call reporting a man climbing the bridge at around 2:30 p.m.
When members of the NYPD’s Emergency Response Unit arrived, they observed a 44-year-old man climbing the north tower of the bridge.
However, before they could make contact with him, cops said he removed his robe and jumped fully naked into the East River below.
He has since been identified as Galymzhan Abaildayev and charged with reckless endangerment, graffiti, public lewdness, criminal trespass, and disorderly conduct.
