THE Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) has authorized Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) to recover P8.7 billion in previously uncollected pass-through costs from customers over three years. The ERC likewise approved the recovery of P228.88 million in real property tax under-recoveries, equivalent to P0.0015 per kWh. Meralco was directed to refund P554,782.62 in lifeline subsidy over-recoveries, equivalent to P0.0001 per kWh, and P2.25 million in senior citizen subsidy over-recoveries, equivalent to P0.0005 per kWh. ERC Chairperson and Chief Executive Officer Francis Saturnino C. Juan said the confirmation and verification process allows the commission to scrutinize every peso Meralco seeks to recover under the approved charges. Despite the approved recoveries, Meralco customers are also due refunds totaling P9.5 billion for over-recoveries in distribution charges, equivalent to P0.3448 per kWh over six months.
