(Horizon Media / YEREVAN)—Archaeologists have uncovered a major ancient settlement in Yerevan’s Silikyan district, on the territory designated for the construction of Armenia’s Academic City. The excavations, led by archaeologist Hakob Simonyan, revealed an extensive architectural complex composed of approximately 34 stone-built rooms. The site introduces an important historical dimension to the Academic City project, linking the planned educational and scientific centre with evidence of early human habitation in the Yerevan region. Representatives of the Academic City Foundation visited the excavation area and met with the archaeological team. Excavations remain underway as specialists work to determine the settlement’s age, significance and place within the broader history of human habitation in and around Yerevan.
