Now entering their seventh year, the Maysles Documentary Center’s Albie Awards honor documentary filmmakers just before the New York Film Festival — and at the top of the Oscar-qualifying season. The awards are named after Harlem-based nonprofit Maysles Documentary Center’s founder, Albert Maysles, to recognize achievements in nonfiction film. This year, we are excited to award David Greaves’ ‘Once Upon a Time in Harlem,’ Pegah Ahangarani’s ‘Rehearsals for a Revolution,’ and Brydie O’Connor’s ‘Barbara Forever.‘” Cannes L’Oeil d’Or winner “Rehearsals for a Revolution” (Sony Pictures Classics) follows the filmmaker as she sketches her own life story across five portraits of resistance. The Albie Awards take place on September 23, 2026 at Ginny’s Supper Club @ Red Rooster in Harlem, with the after-party to follow at the Maysles Documentary Center.
