Salida City Council members will consider adopting formal procedures Tuesday, Aug. 4, outlining when elected officials may be removed from office or publicly sanctioned.
The council will hold a public hearing before voting on the ordinance on second reading, according to the meeting agenda.
The ordinance would require a two-thirds vote of council members to initiate removal proceedings.
The proposal would also authorize lesser sanctions, including formal reprimands and public censure, for council members who repeatedly violate city rules or standards of conduct.
According to the staff report, the ordinance originated after council members requested clearer procedures during discussions earlier this year regarding attendance and disciplinary processes.
