There was panic in Bomet County after a school bus carrying students overturned on the evening of Sunday, August 3. Preliminary reports indicate the accident occurred along the Bomet-Kaplong Highway in Bomet County as students were travelling for the annual music festival from Nairobi. As recently as May, there were casualties along the highway at Meja-Chepkosa after an accident involving a double-cabin pickup and a motorbike. The incident once again highlighted concerns over road safety involving school transport, particularly during periods when learners are travelling long distances for the holidays. Separately, on July 28, at least 13 students were injured after two school buses carrying a total of 101 pupils were involved in a road accident in the Riting area of West Pokot County.
