President William Ruto has pledged to lower the cost of fertiliser and seeds to help farmers return to their farms following widespread crop losses caused by below-average rainfall. He urged farmers to prepare for the expected short rains between September and October, saying the government would intervene to make key farm inputs more affordable and boost food production. Besides poor rainfall, farmers have also had to contend with suspected counterfeit fertiliser. Ruto said the investments are expected to strengthen food production and improve resilience against changing weather patterns that have increasingly affected farmers across the country. Ruto dismissed claims that Vision 2060 is tied to the 2027 General Election, saying it is meant to guide Kenya's long-term development through public participation.
