Phase 4 development will be paired with the construction of future Taiwan facilities. United Microelectronics Corporation (UMC) will increase cleanroom capacity at its Singapore operations as part of a phased expansion plan to meet demand linked to artificial intelligence (AI) adoption. The group will install the cleanroom at its Phase 4 facility and purchase additional equipment to increase its silicon photonics capacity. “With the building shell already built, we can expand cleanroom capacity efficiently as customer demand ramps,” said UMC Chairman Stan Hung. The dual-track approach is designed to meet near-term customer demand whilst establishing the structural footprint required to capture future high-growth AI and edge-computing applications, it added.
