Organised crime gangs have had their bulging wallets picked after detectives seized almost £30 million in dirty money and criminal assets. Police Scotland hit crime kingpins where it hurts most by seizing £29.8 million in cash, luxury goods and assets bankrolled by organised crime over the past year. Data shows between January and March, a total of 148 restraint orders were submitted to the Proceeds of Crime Unit, freezing assets worth £8,308,409. The figures underline the growing focus on attacking organised crime by targeting not just those behind criminal networks but the fortunes that fuel them. Money recovered under proceeds of crime helps to support communities and youth projects.
