“The Inspector-General of Police must address the people of Osun State and assure them of a violence-free poll on August 15, 2026.
He must back his words by action and ensure the neutrality and impartiality of his men all through the election,” the statement partly read.
The council urged the Inspector-General to ensure that security agencies do not become instruments of intimidation against any political group during the election.
The call comes less than two weeks before the August 15, 2026, Osun State governorship election, for which the Independent National Electoral Commission has concluded preparations.
AdvertisementThe appeal also follows recent debates over police deployments in the state after reports of changes in the leadership of the Osun State Police Command.
