Report: Homeowner Finds Stranger Sitting Inside His Car At 2 A.M.SMITHFIELD, N.C. — A Smithfield resident got an unexpected surprise when he stepped outside his Birch Street home in the early morning hours and reportedly found a stranger sitting inside his vehicle. The homeowner immediately called 911 after spotting the man, who fled the scene on foot before officers arrived. Smithfield Police quickly responded and located the suspect a short distance away. Police arrested Nicholas Acrawfetus McNeil, 58, of Blount Street, Smithfield, and charged him with felony breaking and entering a motor vehicle. Detectives believe McNeil may be connected to other unsolved vehicle break-ins in the Smithfield area.
