Earthquake of 5.5 Magnitude Strikes Near Sharm El-Sheikh, Felt in Cairo

Cairo, August 3: A 5.5 magnitude earthquake was felt on Monday morning northeast of Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt.
The National Institute for Astronomical and Geophysical Research of Egypt reported the tremors.
Reports indicate that residents felt the tremors in Cairo, the capital of Egypt, as confirmed by reporters from the Xinhua news agency.
In response to the earthquake, Khaled Abdel-Ghaffar, Egypt’s Minister of Health and Population, ordered the immediate activation of the country’s health emergency plan and convened the ministry’s Central Crisis and Emergency Operations Room.
Meanwhile, the Egyptian Red Crescent has activated emergency plans in cities where tremors were felt and reported no fatalities or property damage.
