The New York Islanders have hired Evan Gold as an assistant general manager and GM of the Hamilton Hammers, the team announced on Monday. “Evan brings a rare combination of experience, intelligence, and results to our Hockey Operations department,” Islanders general manager Mathieu Darche said in the official release. Per the release, he will be involved in “contract negotiations, contract strategy, scouting, salary cap management and more.” He has been the general manager of the AHL's Providence Bruins since 2023, and helped the club finish with the best record in the league in 2025-26. One of his first big tasks should be assisting in contract negotiations with young phenom and reigning Calder Trophy winner Matthew Schaefer.
