Meghalaya: JHADC Opposition Alleges Bias In 16th Finance Commission Fund Allocation, Seeks Fair Distribution
['North East Today']

According to the opposition, of the ₹28.5 crore allocated under the Finance Commission grants, the 10 opposition MDCs received only ₹20 lakh each, while the remaining ₹26.5 crore was distributed among the 19 ruling-side MDCs, translating to approximately ₹1.36 crore per member.
The opposition termed the allocation unfair and discriminatory, alleging that it deprives the people represented by opposition members of their rightful share of development funds.
A copy of the memorandum was also submitted to Deputy Chief Executive Member Lasky Rymbai.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Leader of the Opposition A. Andrew Shullai said the discussions with the CEM were constructive.
He said the ruling side had assured the delegation that the matter would be placed before its parliamentary group for consideration, with a decision expected by August 5, 2026.
