Arunachal: Tawang Launches High-Altitude FMD Vaccination Drive To Protect Yak Herds

The campaign aims to vaccinate nearly 300 yaks against Foot and Mouth Disease, a highly contagious livestock disease that poses a major threat to the livelihoods of the Brokpa community, whose primary source of income and sustenance is yak rearing.

Besides administering vaccines, the veterinary team distributed essential medicines to yak herders and treated several ailing animals during the field visit.
The Indian Army provided logistical and operational support to the vaccination drive, assisting the veterinary team in carrying out the programme under challenging high-altitude conditions, underscoring continued civil-military cooperation in serving remote border communities.
The department reaffirmed its commitment to expanding animal healthcare services in remote and border areas through preventive healthcare, timely disease surveillance and collaborative efforts to protect the district’s valuable livestock resources.
