Civil Disobedience as a Mega-RightThe term “civil disobedience” is generally applied to refer to behaviour that is deemed to be incompatible with higher principles and aims at bringing about desirable social change. In our latest book, Civil Disobedience: The Legal Right to Disobey Law (Sidestream Press, 2026), we conclude that, in certain circumstances, civil disobedience does not violate the rule of law, and it might be properly regarded as coming within the scope of lawful political activity in democratic society. However, repeated acts of civil disobedience are an indication that something is terribly wrong in society. [9]Bearing this in mind, the functioning of the legal right to disobey unjust law as a mega-right manifested itself in Australia during the alleged pandemic. [14]Naturally, persistent violations of the rule of law by civil authorities are a breeding ground for civil disobedience.
