The Czech Senate has called on the government to speed up preparations for the introduction of European disability cards so that Czech people with disabilities can begin using them within a year. Senators made the recommendation while discussing the EU Strategy for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities 2030. The relevant EU directive must be transposed into Czech law by June 5 next year. The Senate also urged the government to clarify how the new European disability card will relate to the country's existing disability ID cards. Labour and Social Affairs Minister Aleš Juchelka said the European Disability Card, together with the European Parking Card, is intended to make it easier for people with disabilities to travel and move freely across the European Union.
