Liberty Networks announced on Friday it is teaming with state-owned Compañía Anónima Nacional Teléfonos de Venezuela (CANTV) to launch a new subsea cable linking Venezuela to the island nation of Curaçao. The Fenix cable system will run 378 km between Curaçao’s capital city of Willemstad and Camuri, which sits 50 km from Caracas. Fenix will also interconnect to Liberty’s subsea cable networks – including ARCOS, EC-Link, Jerry Newton and PCCS – that have a landing point in Curaçao. Liberty said the integration also includes IP Transit capabilities from Curaçao, which in turn connects to the NAP of the Americas data centre in Miami. No timeline was given for the completion of the Fenix project.
