Owen claimed to police he had “no control” of the car and needed assistance – in fact, the Jaguar was stationary at the time.
“He had full control of the vehicle, and with full control of the vehicle, he travelled at excessive and extreme speeds.”
Owen also drove through red lights and texted his girlfriend repeatedly while driving, and struck one of the police cars pursuing him 31 times.
The call handler told Owen she cannot assist him.
Sentencing, Judge Ian Unsworth KC told Owen he was responsible for causing a “major police operation and widespread public alarm”.
