A Kirkcaldy man has followed in his mother’s footsteps by opening a gym in the Fife town. Jack Dewar, 25, was working at Arena Gym, owned by his mum Sally, 50, when he noticed a gap in the market. This gave rise to Grit Performance Gym, which opened on the site of the old Railway Club in November 2025. He had wanted to be a PE teacher, but graduated from Kirkcaldy High without sufficient qualifications in maths, English and science. In his eight years at Arena, Jack progressed to become a personal trainer and level 4 strength and conditioning coach.
