The free event, organised by StoneCrabs Theatre, will be held at Department on Thursday, August 13, from 7pm to 9pm. It will explore hidden LGBTQ+ histories and celebrate working-class narratives and storytelling through a mix of creative performance and community research. The evening will highlight the Historic England-funded project Celebrating LGBTQ+ Working Class Histories, which uncovers stories from Ryde’s past. A key outcome of the project was UNION, a 50-page zine documenting Isle of Wight Pride, LGBTQ+ nightlife in Ryde, and notable figures including Phaedra Kelly and Peter Woodnutt. The event will also mark the launch of Stories Underfoot, a new book featuring the scripts and research from StoneCrabs’ outdoor theatre performances.
