The medieval Lymm Rushbearing is scheduled for this Sunday, August 9. Dating back centuries, rushbearing refers to the tradition of communities replacing old rushes - a tall, grass-like plant used on church floors, with fresh ones. The tradition re-emerged in the early 1970s after dying out at the start of the 20th Century. The procession, which is one of the few left, will begin at Lower Dam at 4pm and make its way to St Mary’s Church, accompanied by Lymm Morris, Bollin Morris and local dignitaries. Organisers are encouraging the community to join in and celebrate this unique tradition.
