Undset is known in Scandinavia for her historical novel trilogy “Kristin Lavransdatter,” which earned her the 1928 Nobel Prize in Literature. Sigaya visited Undset’s home during his assignment in Oslo in 2009, where he served as rector of St. Olav’s Cathedral. Sigaya said Undset embodied the Dominican charism through her pursuit of truth, contemplative life, and literary witness. “She pursued truth with intellectual rigor, immersing herself in history, medieval culture, theology, and literature,” the Dominican priest added. Undset’s cause adds to the growing recognition of lay Dominican holiness following the canonization of St. Pier Giorgio Frassati on Sept. 7, 2025.
