The announcement coincides with the release of new footage below showing over-height vehicles striking rail bridges and protection beams across South East Queensland. The problem remains a significant one, with 427 bridge and protection beam strikes recorded across South East Queensland during 2025. Queensland Rail Head of South East Queensland Neil Backer said every bridge strike was preventable. “While we continue to implement new safety strategies to prevent bridge strikes, we remind drivers that every single bridge and beam strike is avoidable. Any rail bridge strike should be reported immediately using the emergency contact number displayed on the bridge identification plate or by calling Queensland Rail’s Emergency Network Control.
